Recreational League

General Information

The fall season runs from late August to the end of October/beginning of November
The spring season runs from the middle of March to the beginning of May.

U6 = $40 (includes one NMFC shirt)

U8 = $60 (includes NMFC shirts in two different colors used for games)

U10, U12, & U15 = $75 (includes NMFC shirts in two different colors used for games)

Players who enroll in both the fall and spring season are not given new shirts in the spring unless they request them at registration. This helps the club cut down on costs and limits the number of NMFC shirts a given family has (many of our families have more NMFC shirts than they can count!).

Age Groups

NMFC recreational teams are organized in two or three-year age groups (U6, U8, U10, U12, U15) aligned with the US Soccer “U” system. Each child is a U__ according to their birth year and the soccer season, which runs August 1 – July 31. (That is, the age groups change for every fall season.) See the U.S. Soccer Matrix to determine your child’s age group. Note that because age groups are determined by birth year, a player may be in an older age group than their actual age if their birthday is after August 1. It may also be the case that a player is in a different age group than other children in their class due to their birthdate. Players may be invited to "play up" (play in an older age group) if their skill level, effort, and maturity warrant that move. Per MYSA, players are not permitted to "play down" in a younger age group.

Fall: Late August/Early September – End of October/Beginning of November
Spring: Middle of March – end of May

Team Formation

Players in the U6 age group all meet together and attend once-a-week practices and one scrimmage at the end of the season.

Players in the U8 & U15 age groups all meet and practice together (in their respective age groups) for the first week and then teams are created. This allows us to create teams that are as balanced as possible. Once teams are created players continue to practice at the same time but will usually practice with only their team.

For all other age groups (U10, U12), teams are formed at the beginning of the season and the number of teams varies depending on the number of players enrolled. All players in the recreational league are given equal playing time during games and every effort is made to balance the skill level on all teams. Players at the U10, U12, and U15 age groups attend a once-a-week practice and one game a week. U10 players can also choose to attend an optional once-a-week skills practice. U12 and U15 players interested in developing their skills beyond the recreational level are encouraged to separately register for the travel league.
